Benefits of EMDRIA Certification
EMDRIA is the internationally recognized source for research, fidelity, and efficacy in EMDR. By submitting yourself to their rigorous requirements you are choosing to have the backing and clout of this organization.
Get Verified.
As an EMDRIA certified therapist you get access to marketing materials and resources that others don’t. You’ll be eligible to have a full profile on the EMDRIA Therapist Directory, access to helpful videos and written materials to help clients understand EMDR better, and all the benefits that comes with being an EMDRIA member.
Improve Marketing.
There are over 200,000 therapists practicing in the US right now. EMDRIA states that there are 13,000 EMDR trained therapists. That’s only 6.5% of therapists that are EMDR trained. Being certified puts you into an exclusive and highly sought-after category of therapist.
Set Yourself Apart.
Going through the process of certification is intense and rigorous, but it is THE best way to improve your EMDR practice. With the help of your consultant, the continuing ed you’ll do as a part of certification, and the loads of practice you’ll be doing with clients, there’s no better way to become more skilled and comfortable with EMDR.
Gain Confidence.
Meet your Consultant
Hi! I’m Tina.
I’m an EMDRIA certified LPC based out of Philadelphia, PA. In my private practice I exclusively provide EMDR intensives to clients and I LOVE what I do.
Like you, I am on a journey to enhance my knowledge, skills and abilities in EMDR by taking on the challenge of becoming a recognized consultant. Presently, I am a consultant-in-training and I am working towards the EMDRIA requirements for consultants. I am passionate about utilizing EMDR and I love working with other providers who want to improve themselves and their practices with EMDR.
Why choose a Consultant-in-Training (CIT)?
Additional certification and their requirements are expensive. The training, continuing education, and consultation hours add up. One of the biggest benefits of utilizing a CIT is to reduce the consultation expense. Most consultation hours with fully recognized consultants are $150-$250.
My rates as a CIT are less than half of that.
Individual Consultation: $75/hour
Group Consultation: $40/hour
Another benefit of choosing a CIT is that you get two consultants for the price of one! As a CIT, I am in my own consultation and when you present an issue to my, you will get the knowledge and expertise of my EMDRIA certified consultant in addition to my own.
This model allows for the handing off of important knowledge and experience in the EMDR world.
Requirements for EMDRIA Certification
-
Proof of completing basic training is required for certification. Basic training is completed after you’ve attended in full training 1 and 2, and completed 10 hours of consultation.
-
Provide a copy or verification of your clinical license.
-
Provide a notarized document stating that you have at least two years of experience in the field of your license and that you have conducted at least 50 EMDR sessions with 25 different clients.
According to EMDRIA:
“Both statements may be included in one single notarized document. Applicants can simply state, ‘I have at least 2 years experience in my field of license and I have conducted at least 50 EMDR therapy sessions with at least 25 clients’ or similar wording and then have it notarized”.
-
EMDRIA allows certification applicants to get up to 15 of their consultation hours with consultants in training.
As a consultant in training (CIT), I am going through a similar experience to acquire the Consultant credential as you are for certification. I have to meet requirements for CEs, consultation hours, and practice hours.
Working with a CIT is an effective and more affordable way to complete your certification consultation requirements.
-
Your consultants will provide you with letters of recommendation when you’ve completed your consultation hours.
-
You will need two letters of recommendation from colleagues, peers, supervisors, or anyone who is familiar with your clinical work.
-
You will need 12 continuing education hours that are EMDRIA approved in order to complete your certification.
-
By submitting your application, you attest that you agree to adhere to EMDRIA Policies.
